Goodness

Father to the fatherless, defender of widows- this is God, whose dwelling is holy.  God places the lonely in families.       -Psalms 68:5-6

Lord, You are our child’s Father. Though we will forget time after time, it is not a government, or an individual, or a set of rules, but it is You who places children with their intended families.  We praise You for giving us this assurance!

You are the helper of the fatherless.  Lord, you have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart; You will cause Your ear to hear, To do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, That the man of the earth may oppress no more.                -Psalms 10:14, 17-18

Even though we cannot be there, You are there.  We can trust this little one into Your capable care while we wait.  You are our child’s Helper and Heart-preparer.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plan to give you a hope and a future."     -Jeremiah 29:11

You have plans for us and for our child, and those plans are good.  Not expected, not predictable, not without risk....good!

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.       -James 1:27

You press us into persistence and remind us of the bigger picture beyond our immediate awareness.

For as many are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.  For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”     -Romans 8:14-16

Thank you, Father, for adopting us, and for making it clear that we are not Your “adopted children.”  We are simply Your children.

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.   Galations 4:4-6

You sent you Son to redeem us, at such a cost, and you deem it all well worth having done….because now we are Your children.

I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.            -John 14:18

Love, we are coming, with your heavenly Father’s help!
