the scoop on us

Welcome to my very first post!  This blog is first and foremost for our family and friends, many of whom are far far away and much-missed.  For those of you we've never met, hi there!  I will sketch out our background briefly.  To be honest, I am writing this very post as the only allowed viewer- I will adjust my privacy settings once I am sure I am not going to chicken out on this endeavor!

The quick tour: We are Michael and Elizabeth, who met through swing and blues dancing and married a year later.  We moved to Texas, then to Oklahoma, and finally back home to Louisiana, where we enjoy the music, food, and culture...but most of all the family and friends we have here.  We have been married five years, and we recently moved into our wonderful first home with our pets (Kate the dog and Banana the cat).  After a couple years on our own, we hopped onto the fertility treatment rollercoaster for a couple years.  As anyone who has been through this will attest, the treatments pack a life-altering punch!  We are going ahead with the last treatment we have planned for, and that is probably the end of treatments for us. Regardless of the outcome, we now hope to grow our family through international adoption.  Right now, it looks like we will be pursuing adoption in C*a, but we are letting this decision "simmer."  I am too young to apply for the Ch*a program for a few months (too young- that's nice to hear after counting your life in fertility cycles for so long!).  Also, if we were pleasantly- but very- surprised with a pregnancy, that affects our timing, eligibility, and possibly our country choice.  After months of research, reading, and phone consultations, all I know is the more you learn, the more you realize you can never learn enough to be sure you know what you're in for, which is true no matter how your children come to you!
